God's Glory Alone
"I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols." Isaiah 42:8
Ready for some sobering news. Christianity is all about glorifying Jesus. It is not about us. If is for us, but it is not about us. God's goal is to bring glory to his name and that of Jesus.
"His goal to exalt his Son is accomplished when we delight in the fact that salvation is completely of the Lord, and not at all of us (Acts 4:10). Our inability to save ourselves and our utter dependence upon his grace and power exalt him rather than us." This can be startling and some may find it fatalistic that we don't have the ability to save ourselves but in this truth is glory and power to actually be transformed.
"If we don't see ourselves as desperately lost and utterly helpless, Calvary will become a cosmic overreaction meant to save people who really aren't all that bad. Jesus Christ will be devalued; the beloved Son will not be loved or cherished as he should be."
But being lost is our place of glory for Christ. "He said that he came to seek and save the lost, the soul-diseased, and unrighteous sinners. He delights in saving all those who recognize their need, even those who boldly proclaim that they are the foremost offenders." You can't get to this place of humility on your own however, in the same way you can't save yourself.
"The humility that is the source of true worship must be born in you by the Spirit. One our own, we'll always cling to our good works, but the Holy Spirit was sent to help us to make much of him, and he delights in our doing so."
Today, you are in need of Jesus. Don't hide that fact. He is more glorified when we admit it and run to him. He is the only One that gets the glory. Be okay with that and worship because of it.
